Pre-natal diagnostics of congenital malformations in the Czech Republic [Prenat?ln? diagnostika vrozen?ch v?vojov?ch vad v Cesk? republice].

This work puts forward the influence of pre-natal diagnostics on derogation of the occurrence of some congenital malformations of children born in the Czech Republic. The first successful results of prenatal diagnostics can be found in the 70s but only since 1985 the data have been registered and observed for the whole Republic. At present, the best recording exists at fissure deffects of central nervous system, in case of anencephaly 90-100%, at spina bifida 30-50% and at encephaloc?l? almost 62%. We are having a very good pre-natal registering at omphaloc?l? and at gestroschizis - 60%. The down syndrome has been prenatally diagnosed during the last two years in more than 40%.

Sex education within European context [Sexu?ln? v?chova v evropsk?m kontextu].

The author compares attitudes concerning sex education in different countries. They range from the traditional model of information limited to certain aspects of sexual relations, in the strict sense of the term, to the progressive model encompassing contraception and even the psychology of interpersonal relations, and which would be more accurately described as education to family life.

Population of Czech Republic between 1918 and 1938 [Obyvatelstvo Ceskoslovensk? republiky v letech 1918-1938].

In 1939, a Czech economist and demographer, Otto Schmidt edited the publication "Nations at the Crossroads" in which he has returned towards the previous Czechoslovakia and has published the projection of expected evolution of the population in the Czechoslovakia up to 1960. The prognosis of future evolution of the population issued from rather less favourable assumptions. It expected that the fertility would not be higher than level attained in 1933 and the mortality would remain high as was registered in 1929-1932. Since 1930 till 1960 the number of population in the former Czechoslovakia should increase by 5.7%. Unfortunately, there occured another assumptions - those, which could not be taken into consideration by Schmidt (war, displacement, changes of reproduction).
