Information on Causes of Death Based on Verbal Autopsy (Mencari Sebab Kematian Berdasarkan Survai: Apa Yang Perlu Diketahui Mengenai "Verbal Autopsy"?)
Information based on verbal autopsy is the main source of identifying causes of death in the absensce of medical certification of deaths. This information is crucial for planning, monitoring and evaluation of health programmes, as well as epidemic awareness. However, this information can be difficult to ascertain in developing countries where deaths frequently occur at home and other members of the household could not explain signs and symptoms systematically. This paper discusses what has been done in the mortality study of tlit, 1992 Household Health Survey, the difficulties of accurately applying the "underlying cause of death" concept, and othr problems related to implementing verbal autopsy in Indonesia. Interviewers have to pay attention to 9 time interval between deaths and survey's interview, and between time of illness and death. The concluding section presents what should be done to derive better quality of information in the near future. Examples on how to set-up a series of diagnostic algorithms are presented. In addition, this paper suggest to utilize much of information or more than one respondent. (INDONESIE, CAUSE DE DECES, QUALITE DES DONNEES)
